Dear Kiptik Supporter We know... it has been a long time! Despite the lack of communications in recent months, Kiptik is still active and raising funds for the autonomous Zapatista communities in Chiapas. In the last two years (thanks to fundraising and supporter donations) we have funded a large water filter project, and solar panels for an important education project. Details of both of these projects are attached to this email. The situation in Chiapas has always been tough for indigenous communities but things are currently are at a new extreme. Drug cartels are now repressing and displacing large numbers of people, in addition to the long-term repression of communities at the hands of political opponents and paramilitary groups. The work that we can support is, as ever, being led by the communities themselves and specific to their current needs and resources available. This month (October 2024) Kiptik are running two fantastic events in Bristol, with the aim of raising funds for our ongoing work and awareness that the Zapatista struggle is still live and real.
