Dear Kiptik Supporter
We know... it has been a long time!
Despite the lack of communications in recent months, Kiptik is still
active and raising funds for the autonomous Zapatista communities in
Chiapas. In the last two years (thanks to fundraising and supporter
donations) we have funded a large water filter project, and solar panels
for an important education project. Details of both of these projects
are attached to this email.
The situation in Chiapas has always been tough for indigenous
communities but things are currently are at a new extreme. Drug cartels
are now repressing and displacing large numbers of people, in addition
to the long-term repression of communities at the hands of political
opponents and paramilitary groups. See links below for an idea of the
situation:

Zapatista communities are therefore shut off and existing under harder
conditions than ever before. The work that we can support is, as ever,
being led by the communities themselves and specific to their current
needs and resources available.
This month (October 2024) Kiptik are running two fantastic events in
Bristol, with the aim of raising funds for our ongoing work and
awareness that the Zapatista struggle is still live and real. If you can
attend one or both of these events it would mean a great deal to us and
the communities. Info as follows and posters attached:
Sunday 20th October: The Cube Microplex, Bristol BS2. 7pm / Tickets £10
(£7 concessions) UK film premiere of "La Montaña" - the story of the
Zapatista 'Journey For Life' across Europe in 2021. A compelling,
powerful documentary about decolonisation and anti-neoliberalism, the
Zapatista delegation mark their journey across the Atlantic not only as
conquistadors of the past, but also with hope for the future, planting a
seed of life and struggle in Europe.
