Dear Captains,
Massive muchas gracias companeras!
Well you made it happen despite COVID, sudden isolations, projected thunder and lightning
and an unexpected Colombian food shortage.
Congratulations to Duffers Allstars for totally owning the tournament and playing some
outstanding football. And well done to the Easton Cowgirls for picking up the Plato
Lucrecia Lindo (next year we will find a plate honest). It was brilliant that we had teams
travelling from Cardiff and Birmingham and also having two new teams taking part was
lovely. A big thanks to all the teams who took part.
Ambassador Guisell and her colleague Brenda, the Nicaraguan footballer/chef, enjoyed
meeting the teams. They presented Roz, Elspeth and Nick with the Embassy’s “Special Friend
of Nicaragua and Solidarity Hero” awards for their many years of voluntary work supporting
education and Fairtrade projects with Nicaragua.
There are some photos up on our Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/bristolnicaragua/<https://eur03.safelinks.prote…
and please share the attached with your team-mates so they can print off the certificate
and stick it on their fridges. And send us your favourite image from the day and we will
upload it.
Thanks again for getting your team-mates to the tournament. We know it is not easy. Stay
safe, be kind to each other and we will see you for Copa Lucrecia Lindo 2022 (May 22nd).
Alix
PS. You may have noticed that the US and their media chums are throwing the kitchen sink
at Nicaragua in the build up to elections in November. One of our supporters John Perry
who lives in Nicaragua has written a good piece about the current situation
https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://popularresistance.org/why-us-policy-in-…
and as we didn’t manage to sing before the final, here is the Nicaraguan single which went
viral there called Soberanía (Sovereignty)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGYo_mBS-Dg<https://eur03.safelinks.prot…
and is fast becoming the FLSN anthem for the elections.
