[OOTB-infra] Meeting about INTRA and DISTRO

Hi Martin, Heiko,

Yes, MX record for @orderofthebee.org points to my Zimbra server. We have some addresses for social networks (twitter, slideshare) and a list for communication between board members. We also thought about creating a list for communication between voting members, but I'm not sure that we need it.
JFYI, about Zimbra distribution lists: we do not get any logs or mailboxes for such "lists" in Zimbra, it just redirects a message to all email addresses in the list. So it's easier to send a message to all board members or all voting members.

I think we can use some subdomain for notifications and internal services.

Why don't we take this to the infra list?

Not least as Oksana does the email redirects and she is on the infra committee too.

We really should not have all this back channel discussion at all, it all needs to be upfront in the mailing list. Especially the infrastructure decisions must not be made ad-hoc without some discussion in the list.

Hi,

another open issue for the INFRA discussion: Email

we should set up email routing for the domain orderofthebee.org the right way - otherwise we're not able to receive and send emails, notifications etc.
For now it's somehow fragmented / hardcoded.

@Martin: As a starting point, could you please (brain)dump DNS config and mail forwards to the infrastructure wiki ?

Next step would be to enable gw1.orderofthebee.org to act as an email smart host to accept emails from and to internal services. This can of course indlude some forwards to keep already running mechanisms. But to be able to configure that we need to document them first.

Thanks

Hi Ole,

very good idea and thanks for taking the initiative. We should do this on a regulary base to organize todo's, make decisions and clarfiy questions.

Additional points I have:

* What are the expected use cases we want to provide on infra?
** productive systems like web, blog, mail, ...
** demo system
** dev and testing support like build server, repository, test VMs with different OSes
** ???

* Rules & Compliance
** Who should have which kind of access / permissions?
** Common decisions concerning security rules
** Full access to the whole system should be limited to a small number of known persons
** Access should never be granted to anonymous users - otherwise you (MagentaApps as the owner of the server) and me as the contact person will get in legal trouble in case of any abuse/misusage. Since there is no official OOTB organisation MagentaApps is fully resonsible for everything what happens on the machines.
** We need rules of transparency/auditability for any changes in the infrastructure

cheers
Heiko

Betreff: Meeting about INTRA and DISTRO

Hi Lanre, Heiko and Martin

We just had a board meeting with The Order Of The Bee, and overall we’re concerned about DISTRO and INFRA committees not really taking off, potentially blocking some of the cooler ideas.

As I understand it we have the servers, and Heiko has made some very nice progress with them. Next step is to figure out how Martin’s puppet build can tie into all of this.

I propose we set a meeting between all four of us to talk about where we are today, where we want to go and how to get there.
We also need to clearly define some concrete tasks and which skill sets they need so we can engage all the bees to wake them up.

I would prefer to have the meeting done before Office Hours next week, where we would like to show all the cool stuff that has already been done and talk about what needs to be done.

Please plot your schedule in here: http://doodle.com/byczi3hgk7s9u25t#table /Ole
