[OOTB-hive] The Future of Alfresco Summit

I feel like it doesn't really matter that much but as you and Gab have both mentioned it I think you actually are asking the community to do it. If we all agree that a single conference in both the U.S. and Europe is important but if Alfresco isn't putting on the events, then you are, by default, asking the community to do it (with your help of course which is awesome).

If you had continued putting on community friendly summits in both places BeeCon wouldn't be necessary.

This isn't a bad thing. Obviously we won't have the same resource level as we would have but if we all pitch in we can still have a cool event.

My blog post title was a summary of what I think I correctly assess as the situation. I didn't mean for it to be overly negative although it is a bit frustrating.

This means that we haven't had time to update http://summit.alfresco.com just yet, but we are working on updating the page with the new plan for Alfresco Days. I have asked if we can do anything to speed up this process.

BeeCon has been in the works for a while now, and we have been fully supportive of the idea from the beginning. We are committed to do a developer focused event, but it does not make sense for us to make an event that would essentially compete with BeeCon. Instead we chose to embrace our community's efforts and offer our help - all in the spirit of transparency and collaboration.

Our plan didn't meet the needs of the large portion of our developer community in Europe, and it wasn't likely to meet all our goals for our global network. At the same time, you got excited about organizing a true community-led BeeCon. This conference would meet a lot of the same goals we had for Summit, specifically as a developer and open source conference.

We have received lots of positive feedback on these events from those of you who have attended, and we are adding a separate track of developer content at these events.

>>

If you prepared a proposal, but did not submit it, please send it to community at alfresco.com. We also encourage you to submit to BeeCon when the call for papers opens.

>>
>> We apologize to those who have already booked travel. We hope you still get to visit and enjoy New Orleans without being stuck in a conference center. If you make it as far west as Utah, Richard promises to cook you dinner at his house and you can play some soccer with his family ;)
